A FLAG handing-over ceremony for the Belait District contingent for the upcoming Brunei Darussalam National Games from Nov 29 to Dec 6 was held at the Mumong Sports Complex’s multi-purpose hall yesterday.
The guest-of-honour YB Awang Haji Mohd Yusof bin Haji Dulamin a member of the National Legislative Council (LegCo) handed over the Belait District flag to Acting Assistant Belait District Officer Mohd Abd Hadi bin Hj Sharifuddin who is also the chef-de-mission of the contingent.
At the ceremony, Hj Haris bin Othman, the Belait District Officer, emphasised the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork in sports.
“My hope for individuals of the Belait contingent is to see this national sports gathering which comprises representatives of all four districts and organisations and companies within Brunei Darussalam as an opportunity to break personal records and at the same time to be better athletes carrying the slogan ‘Belait Is The Best’.”
“This is also an opportunity for the athletes of this district to meet and to foster better relations with the other participants,” Hj Haris added.
The netball team received tracksuits from Stula Magnus of Aker Solutions Sdn Bhd and match jerseys from Dayang Norren binti Mohd Noor representing Standford Orion Services.
Hjh Latifah, a representative of Serikandi Group of Companies, presented around 40 boxes of mineral water for the Belait District contingent.
This year, 364 athletes will be representing the Belait District in 20 sports which are badminton, netball, basketball, softball, football, dart, futsal, golf, karatedo, fencing, cycling, boat racing, athletics, silat, petanque, indoor sepak takraw, taekwondo, indoor tug-of-war, tenpin bowling and wushu.
Twenty-two companies and organisations in the Belait District have made contributions to assist the Belait contingent for the sporting extravaganza.
