THE Belait cycling team demonstrated their dominance in the road cycling events when they grabbed three gold medals out of the four contested at the Brunei Darussalam National Games.
In the team time trial 70.35km event, Belait cyclists managed to complete the race in a combined time of 1:37:01 to claim the gold medal.
The silver medal went to Brunei Shell Joint Venture who finished with a time of 1:39:23 and Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council took third place with a time of 1:41:45.
In the individual time trial of 41.7km, Tutong’s Awang Azmi bin Hadziz spoilt Belait’s dream of a clean sweep in the road cycling events by taking the gold medal with a time of 57’31.
Just less than a minute behind was Awang Abd Hardie bin Morsidi who came in at 58’44 to bag the silver medal. Third place went to Belait’s Awang Reduan bin Yusop with a time of 59’09.
Awang Abd Hardie won the gold medal in the men’s individual road race of 136.48km when he completed the race first. Azmi bin Abd Hadziz of Tutong took silver and Reduan bin Yusop settled for the bronze.
In the team road race event, Belait team again proved to be a tough team to beat as they lay their hands on the gold medal. Second place went to Tutong while Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council bagged the bronze medal.
The guest of honour, Awang Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, the Tutong District Officer presented the prizes to the winners.
