THE Kindergarten pupils from Bakti Dewa School (BDS) in Berakas and Jerudong recently visited the turtle hatchery of the Marine Biodiversity Centre at Meragang Beach.
The excursion was led by the BDS Executive Director, Pg Anak Hafeezah Syukrina binti Pg Anak Hj Hassanuddin. Teachers and pupils were fascinated by watching the different animals at the centre such as the sea turtles, clown fish and horse-shoe crabs.
Staff from the centre explained that their department’s duty is to rescue and look after the different endangered turtles species in Brunei Darussalam, and its motto is ‘Sayangi Penyu Kitani’. They’ve been helping endangered animals since 1998.
Teachers and pupils of the school also had the chance to see and touch different animals during the visit. They were also briefed on how to protect them.
The objective of the visit was to familiarise the pupils with the endangered animals and instil awareness on animal conservation among them.
On behalf of the school’s administration, the teachers and staff thanked Haji Muhammad Faisal bin Haji Noridin, Acting Head of Wildlife Division at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, for helping make this visit possible.
