THE newly elected executive members of the Brunei-China Friendship Association (BCFA) has been urged to always practice transparency in the administration of the Brunei Darussalam Business Liaison Building in Naning China, as the building is one of the landmark collaborative projects between Brunei and The People’s Republic of China that symbolises friendship between the people of both countries.
The call was made by Dr Haji Kamaruddin bin Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib, the former president of BCFA in his remark at the installation ceremony for the newly-elected members of the Brunei-China Friendship Association 2015-2017 held yesterday.
The ceremony was witnessed by Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, who was also the guest of honour.
Leading the Brunei-China Friendship Association for 2015 to 2017 is Ang Swee Chuan, the newly elected president while the deputy president is Dr Muhd Firdaus bin Abdul Rahman.
Assisting the president are five vice-presidents: YB Awang Haji Ahmad Morshidi bin POKDSDDLU Haji Awang Abdul Rahman, Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Kassim bin Haji Johan, Haji Awang Ghazali bin Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Dr Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri and Lau Shiew Yuen.
The secretary-general is Ang Ju Ming, while Nelson Kwa Boon Wee is the deputy secretary-general. Treasurer of the association is Wee Meng Han assisted by Thomas Koh Kok Peng as the deputy treasurer. The other committee members are Lim Ming Kiat, Lim Ting Chai, Lim Ting Guan, Sng Teck Ann, Tan Chin Wan, Kam Fook Seng, Goh Kim Tian and Chia Thian Jin.
Dr Haji Kamaruddin also hoped that the newly elected committee will make sure that the Liaison Building, which is also known as the Friendship Building, will be efficiently maintained and managed.
He also revealed that preparation is currently in progress for the China Asean People-To-People Friendship Organisation Conference, which is expected to take place in October this year. He also thanked the previous committee for successfully leading the association during the 2004 to 2015 period.
Meanwhile Dr Muhd Firdaus, representing the new committee, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation on the contribution of the association and vowed to continue to boost the friendship between Brunei and China.
“The new committee will continue its task in strengthening the relationship of the people from both countries through the fields of culture, education, sports and economics,” he added.
Also present at the ceremony were Ambassador Yang Jian of The People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam as well as prominent figures in the local Chinese community.
