NEWLY-converted Muslim Muhammad Red Uzair bin Abdullah Ong is now entering a new phase in his life as he recited the “Dua Kalimah Syahadat” in Kampong Sungai Tilong on Sunday.
Formerly known as Ong Ed Red, his conversion was officiated by officers from the Conversion and Guidance Unit, Islamic Dakwah Centre, at the residence of Hj Esa bin Kula.
Among the attendees were the guest of honour Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof; Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Awg Hj Abidin; Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Yahya bin Hj Abd Rahman; and Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Pg Hj Mohammad Ali bin Pg Hj Othman.
The ceremony included a Dikir Marhaban and a presentation of a gift by the guest of honour to Muhammad Red Uzair.
Muhammad Red Uzair, 31, is the second of three siblings, and the first to embrace Islam.
Muhammad Red Uzair, who has been working with Baiduri Bank since 2007, was born and raised in Kampong Tanjong Nangka.
Even before his conversion, he had practised fasting during the holy month of Ramadhan.
