Bangladeshi jailed for overstaying

A 39-YEAR-OLD Bangladeshi man was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with three whippings after he pleaded guilty to overstaying in the country.

Chief Magistrate Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Dato Kefli heard from Immigration prosecutor Haji Sufri Amadi that the defendant, Ashad Miah, held an employment pass which had expired on July 6, 2014.

The defendant did not leave the country since then and was arrested when he reported himself at the Immigration enforcement office in Kuala Belait on May 11, 2017.
