Bangladesh High Commission marks National Mourning Day

THE Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam observed the 43rd Martyrdom Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day at the Chancery’s premise in Kampong Sungai Akar yesterday.

The event began with the hoisting of the national flag of Bangladesh at half-mast by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam, Air Vice Marshal Mahmud Hussain.

Recitation of verses from Al-Quran and observance of a minute’s silence took place afterwards as a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation and martyrs of August 15, 1975.

The high commissioner then read out messages from Bangladesh’s President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs during the event.

A discussion on the prolific life and works of the Father of the Nation was also conducted.

The event continued with a special prayer seeking blessings from Allah the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul of Bangabandhu and the other martyrs as well as for the peace and prosperity of the country.

The event was attended by members of the Bangladeshi community in Brunei.

All were served with refreshment at the end of the event.
