THE Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam yesterday commemorated the 40th anniversary of the death of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and their National Mourning Day 2015.
The day began with the hoisting of Bangladesh national flag at half-mast at the chancery premises in Sungai Akar. Present at the event was Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Mohammed Abdul Hye.
The commemoration was in respect of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members who were killed in the early morning of August 15, 1975. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman contributed to establishing indepen-dence for Bangladesh as well as shaping the destiny of its people.
The event was followed with reading out the statements from the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Bangladesh.
In the afternoon, a Khatam Al-Quran and special prayer ceremony was held, attended by a number of Bangladeshis residing and working in the Sultanate.
