THE Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam last night hosted a farewell dinner for the outgoing Ambassadors from Thailand, Russia and the United States of America at the High Commissioner’s Residence in Kampung Sungai Hanching.
During the dinner, outgoing Ambassadors Apichart Phetcharatana from Thailand, Victor Seleznev from Russia and Daniel Shields from the US made brief parting speeches, where they spoke of their fruitful tenure in the Sultanate.
The event, hosted by Mohammed Abdul Hye, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam and his spouse, was also held to welcome newly-appointed Ambassadors of Japan, Madam Noriko Iki; Laos, Amphay Kindavong; and the Republic of Korea, Cho Won Myung.
Mohammed Abdul Hye in an interview said it is part of their diplomatic norm and practice to welcome new colleagues and bid farewell to their parting colleagues.
“We maintain excellent relations with these three outgoing Ambassadors and tonight we are honouring them. For our new colleagues, as a country, Bangladesh enjoys excellent bilateral relations with these countries and we maintain this family-like get together time occasion which helps us exchange our views and forge close relations among ourselves,” he added.
