BAIDURI Bank achieved yet another milestone when it became the first financial institution in Brunei to obtain certification for its card payment systems and processes from the globally recognised Payment Card Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS).
The bank is one of the first few financial institutions in the region to be certified with the latest PCI-DSS Version 2.0, a payment card industry security standard for entities that processes and transmits stored cardholder data, created to increase controls around cardholder data to reduce incidences of card fraud the bank announced at a press conference at its headquarters in Kg Kiarong yesterday.
ControlCase, a global provider of Compliance, Information Security and Risk Management Solutions, was engaged by Baiduri Bank as the Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) to provide Certification and Professional Services required to achieve compliance with PCI-DSS Version 2.0 earlier this year.
Baiduri Bank CEO Pierre Imhof told reporters, “Our teams have worked very hard this year to achieve this important milestone and we are therefore very proud to be the first and only bank in Brunei to receive PCI-DSS certification.”
Pierre Imhof also said that Baiduri Bank remains at the forefront of innovation by employing new technologies and standards in card security.
“Baiduri Bank was the first bank to issue EMV Cards in 2006, the first bank to install EMV point-of-sale terminals at merchant locations, the first bank to enable EMV ATM Acquiring and now the first bank to achieve PCI-DSS certification,” he said, adding that these initiatives are strong testimonial to show cardholders, regulators, card brands and the public that they take card security and the protection of cardholder data seriously.
On hand to present the Certificate of Compliance to Imhof at the event yesterday was Suresh Dadlani, Chief Operating Officer of ControlCase Asia Pacific.
Also present to witness the certification hand-over were Ti Eng Hui, Deputy CEO of Baiduri Bank, Simon Hansman, Head of IT Project Management Officer and other Baiduri Bank Senior Executives.
The standard has been endorsed by all major card brands (Visa Inc, MasterCard Worldwide, Discover Network, American Express and JCB) to safeguard customer information and mandates that merchants and service providers meet and maintain stringent quality standards when they process and transmit cardholder data.
ControlCase LLC is a US-based company headquartered in Reston, Virginia with locations in North America, Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East.
