A 39-YEAR-OLD local man was sentenced to two weeks in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of theft but walked, as his sentence was backdated to the date when he was first arrested.
Chief Magistrate Muhammed Faisal advised Julajis bin Hj Sulaiman @ Seriman to abide by the law and to stay away from trouble in the future as he passed the backdated sentence to December 9.
Julajis snatched a wallet from a customer who switched tables and left it at his original seating whilst doing his work at the Coffee Bean Restaurant in the capital around 6.50pm on December 5.
At around 8.50pm that night, the wallet’s owner realised his missing belonging and sought help from the restaurant staff. They looked at the CCTV footage where it clearly showed the defendant taking the wallet and leaving the place immediately.
A police report was lodged but on December 6, the defendant returned the wallet to Kampong Ayer Police Station. DPP Kamaliah Hj Ibrahim appeared as the Public Prosecutor.
