ATTORNEY General of Brunei Darussalam, Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Hayati binti Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Salleh, accompanied by officers of the Attorney General’s Chambers Brunei, yesterday attended a conference hosted for the Attorneys General of South, South-East and East Asia held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The conference was hosted by the Attorney General’s Deparment of Sri Lanka in conjunction with the 130th anniversary of the creation of the office of the Attorney General of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The conference was officiated by the President of Sri Lanka, President Maithripala Sirisena and was also attended by Ranil Wickramasinghe, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and Attorneys General from 15 Asian countries.
The theme for the conference is the ‘Role of the Attorney General in a Changing Asia’ and has the objective of establishing a new beginning for cooperation and mutual legal assistance, therefore ensuring peace and prosperity in the region.
Among the topics discussed were ‘The Dilemma – Balancing Politics and the Law’, ‘Climate, Development and Human Security – Justice Perspective ‘ and ‘The Role of the Attorney General in a Changing Asia’.
