ANTHONY Tours and Travel Agency Sdn Bhd (ATTA) yesterday marked the Chinese New Year (CNY) with a Gala Dinner for 237 guests from Xiamen, Fuzhou, Wuyishan and Quanzho, who are currently visiting Brunei until February 23, at The Empire Hotel and Country Club’s Indera Samudra Grand Hall.
The event’s guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources.
Also present last night was Madam Yang Jian, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam.
In his welcoming speech, the Managing Director (MD) of ATTA, Anthony Lim, said that they “have worked very hard to ensure that the tours run smoothly and to maximise the experience of the tourists”.
He added that the charter flight projects that were initiated in late March 2014 during the Nanyang Cultural Festival organised by China’s Foreign Ministry and supported by Tourism Development Brunei marked the first charter flight group bringing tourists from Xiamen, Fujian using Royal Brunei Airlines’ latest B787 aircraft.
Prior to the speech, the guest of honour presented door gifts (in the form of ‘Bunga Telur’) to guests as they entered the hall.
A memento was also presented to the minister by ATTA’s managing director before leaving the gala dinner.
The event continued with a speech from Mdm Yang after the guest of honour’s departure, in which she said that tourism has helped promote both countries and enhanced understanding.
