TEN buses, wrapped with images of the diverse cultures and attractive natural landscapes of Asean, will travel to cities in South Korea.
The Asean-Korea Centre has launched ‘Asean on Wheels’, a large-scale roadshow which will tour Korea’s major cities from December 3 to 13.
The event is organised to celebrate the 2014 Asean-Republic of Korea (ROK) Commemorative Summit and to contribute to enhancing interest and understanding about Asean culture and tourism among the public.
The journey of the tourism promotion buses bagan in Seoul with a launching ceremony and will continue to areas such as Gyeonggi, Cheongju, Daejon, Gwanju, Ulsan and finally to the host city of the Asean-ROK Commemorative Summit, Busan.
In addition, students from each touring city have been recruited to participate in the ‘Asean on Wheels’ expedition. The expedition will learn about Asean and at the same time will be given missions to promote Asean to the residents of the cities.
Furthermore, in each bus, an ‘Asean Culture and Tourism Library’ will be operated where visitors can watch videos introducing the colourful and splendid tourist attractions of Asean. Visitors can also listen to traditional Asean music and receive Asean Tourism Guidebooks.
A quiz event will also be conducted to provide the citizens a chance to win prizes including a return air ticket to an Asean country, travel magazines, guidebooks and much more.
Chung Hae-moon, the Secretary-General of the Asean-Korea Centre, expressed his hopes on the upcoming event, saying, “Asean culture and tourism promotion activities will not only dwell in Seoul but also reach far out to other cities throughout the country via the buses. This aspect makes the event all the more meaningful and is also a new venture for the Centre. I hope ‘Asean on Wheels’ will become a good opportunity for the Korean public to feel closer to Asean and also learn about its myriad attractions.”
‘Asean on Wheels’ is part of the special programme, ‘Best of Asean’, which has been organised by the Asean-Korea Centre to celebrate the 2014 Asean-ROK Commemorative Summit. The event is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea; Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea; the metropolitan cities of Seoul, Busan, Gwangju, Daejon and also North Chungcheong Province.
