THE Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Military Cadet Force organised a “Skill at Arms Meet” for some 126 cadets enrolled at higher institutions in the country, which among others, was aimed at testing their level of precision in shooting and their ability to handle the weaponry.
The annual competition, held at the electric target range (ETR) in Berakas Garrison yesterday, involved both male and female cadets from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) and Politeknik Brunei competing in a number of individual and group categories.
In the ‘Rifle for Men and Women Individual Categories’ (100-200 metres), 92051 Lkpl Kt Muhd Amirul Azmi bin Hj Ali Amzah from ITB and 92096 Sld Kt Nurul Amalina Shikin binti Ali came out on top.
Meanwhile, in the team category, ITB won the championship through both its male and female representatives.
In the ‘Falling Metal Plate Men and Women’ team category (100 metres), the male team from UBD ‘A’ won the top award, while UNISSA ‘A’ were presented with first place honours for their performance.
Meanwhile, special invitees also competed in the ‘Falling Metal Plate Invitational’ category (100 metres) prior to the conclusion of the event. This category was won by UBD’s representatives.
The competition was initiated earlier in the day by the Acting Vice-Chancellor of UBD, Associate Professor Dr Azman bin Ahmad, who also presented prizes to the winners yesterday afternoon.
Major Pg Hamdiah Pg Hj Hashim, Commanding Officer of the Brunei Cadet Force of the RBAF, said such events are usually held during semester breaks and over the weekends and encourage a spirit of teamwork among cadets. He shared that another event in the pipeline for the near future is a cross-country run.
The Ministry of Defence (MinDef) in a press release said that apart from testing their skills at arms, “the event encourages teamwork and comradeship among the participants”.
