THE Brunei Flowerhorn Hobbyist Association and Brunei Goldfish Club co-organised the very first Brunei aquatic show and competition supported fully by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday at the Youth Centre, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The guest of honour who presented the prizes was Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman, Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The event was held from January 9 to January 11 and included Kamfa and Zhen Zu categories for the Flowerhorn, and Oranda and Ranchu categories for Goldfish. The Flowerhorn categories were further divided into two classes; A – 23cm above, B – 16cm to 23cm, while the Goldfish categories were also divided into two classes; A – 12cm to 16cm, B – 16.1cm and above.
The competition saw 32 participants from within and outside the country for the Flowerhorn categories and 25 participants competed in the Goldfish categories.
The winner of the Zhen Zhu A Class was Mohammad Waie Zarfan bin Mohammad Arif, while the Kamfa A’s winner was Harun Ramlee. Andi Setiawan won first place in the Zhen Zhu B while the Kamfa B’s first place went to Haji Roslee bin Haji Baha.
Harun Ramlee also bagged the Grand Champion title in the Kamfa B while Haji Roslee bin Haji Baha also bagged the Young Champion prize.
Meanwhile, Krish from Malaysia was the Grand Champion in the Goldfish categories while Rafidah binti Suhaili grabbed the Reserve Grand Champion title. Also winners in the Goldfish categories were Rafidah binti Suhaili for Ranchu B, Mohammad Waie Zarfan bin Mohammad Arif for Oranda B and Krish from Malaysia for Oranda A.
The objectives of conducting the event were to develop the aquaculture industry in Brunei Darussalam in line with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s titah as an initiative towards multiple economies, to give opportunities and encouragement for youth to explore the aquacultural field as an economic catalyst, and as an effort for the youth to live up to the titah of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam of self-developing into the field of business generally and aqua-culture specifically.
In addition, the event was also supported by a number of renowned international decorated fish farms and associations such as BWN Crossbreed Brunei, Aries Louhan Farm Indonesia, LFX Thailand, United Flowerhorn Association USA, Facebook Flowerhorn Hobbyist USA, CZ Aqua Thailand, Goldfish Mania Brunei, LIMAS Farm Indonesia and Goldfish Mania Malaysia.
Registration for the competition was opened at the beginning of November 2014 and closed in December 2014 where organisers received a positive response with contestants from outside the country such as Indonesia and Malaysia.
