LOS ANGELES (dpa) – Technology giant Apple will hold a media event on October 16, according to invitations sent to multiple media outlets Wednesday.
Apple is expected to introduce its latest iPad during the event.
The tech website Recode had already announced the date last week.
“It’s been way too long,” the invitation reads.
While the media invitation did not say what would be discussed, it is expected that in addition to the new tablet Apple may also introduce its latest desktop operating system OS X Yosemite and possibly a new iMac computer at the special event, the reports said.
The Cupertino, California-based company introduced the most recent iPad models in October 2013 and sales of the gadget have been slipping.
Also Wednesday, activist investor Carl Icahn announced he would be sending an open letter to Apple chief executive Tim Cook.
“Believe it will be interesting,” Icahn said on Twitter.
The tweet could hint at another confrontation between the controversial investor and Apple management.
Icahn had a public battle with Apple over the amount of cash the company has accumulated.
The 78-year-old, who is famous for buying stakes in companies and pressuring them to take action to raise the share price or increase dividends, boosted his Apple shares in 2013. He then pressed Apple to implement a multi-billion-dollar share buyback to propel the stock higher.
The company rejected the buyback proposal and earlier this year Icahn announced the end of his campaign, saying that purchases by the technology giant had gone a long way to meeting his goals.
