BANGKOK (dpa) – Apple Inc (EPA pic, below) will include the Beats music subscription service with its operating system from early next year, a media report said.
The move will make the service available on hundreds of millions of Apple mobile phones and tablets, the Financial Times reported Wednesday.
Apple bought the music streaming service and headphone manufacturer this year for three billion dollars. An update to the iOS software could come as early as March, the report said, citing people familiar with the situation.
Pre-installed apps are seen as a short-cut for customers. Apple has around 200 million active customers of its iTunes download service, according to Midia Research. It estimated that Beats has around 110,000 subscribers to its service, the report said. Apple will likely rebrand the Beats service and run it on a paid subscription model, the Financial Times said. Music streamer and Beats competitor Spotify has around 10 million subscribers to its service.
