THE Court of Appeal earlier this week rejected the appeal of a teacher who raped a teen student by refusing his application for leave out of time to appeal.
Justices Mortimer, Leonard and Burrell stated that the sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment after plea was justified.
The court stated in judgment that the 50-year-old senior master at a school had raped a 13-year-old pupil.
The appellant, whose name cannot be revealed to protect the victim’s identity, targeted the victim by showing her pornographic videos and giving her presents.
The victim is the same age as the appellant’s daughter, who goes to the same school.
The Justices said appellant owed the same duty of care and protection towards the pupil as a parent and upheld the High Court’s decision.
