AREA K6 Toastmasters Humourous Speech contest and Speech Evaluation contest were held yesterday at the iCentre in Kampong Anggerek Desa.
Representatives from Brunei Speakers’ Club, OTTERS’ Club and Brunei Advanced Speakers’ Club competed in the competition. Each category had six contestants and the winner will represent Brunei (Area K6) in the Division K level contest in Kota Kinabalu, on October 12.
The Division K competition features over 35 clubs from Sabah, Labuan and Brunei. The winner of the contest will proceed to the district competition to face Toastmasters from other parts of Malaysia and Indonesia to fight for the title of District Champion.
This annual event is part of a Toastmaster’s development to improve their communication and leadership skills.
Winners of the Humourous Speech contest were Allen Ang, Zainal Bostaman and Reuben Chin. Winners of the Speech Evaluation Contest were Allen Ang, Melati Dato Yussof and Reuben Chin. Allen Ang having won both categories will represent Brunei in Sabah.
Last term, a representative from the Brunei Speakers’ Club, Stuart Lee, won the title of District Champion in the Humourous Contest Speech.
The event took place at the auditorium at the iCentre. Present were Jeremy Chua, the manager of iCentre and incubatees of the iCentre, toastmasters members and the public. Prizes were presented by Area Governor of Area K6, Ruey Narcis.
