A 42-YEAR-OLD Malaysian man denied two charges of possession of smuggled cigarettes yesterday before the Magistrate’s court, in which trial is fixed for September 23. Rani bin Marali’s prosecution will be conducted by the Attorney General’s Chambers.
He is alleged to have possessed 27 cartons of cigarettes in a vehicle just after 9pm on August 5, 2014.
The second allegation states that he possessed 103 cartons of cigarettes in a vehicle just after 4pm on September 8, 2014.
Both incidents are alleged to have happened at the Kuala Lurah control post.
Senior magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah Hussain allowed the Customs’ prosecuting officer’s objection to the defendant’s bail release, as he holds a social visit pass with no interests in the country.
