AIRASIA yesterday launched the first of its kind travel pass in the region, which allows travellers to enjoy flights at a fixed rate to over 148 routes across all 10 Asean member countries, in an effort to make travelling within the region more seamless.
Launching the AirAsia Asean Pass before the region’s top tourism officials and AirAsia regional CEOs in a grand-scale event held in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday, Group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said as a truly Asean airline, they are extremely proud to introduce the AirAsia Asean Pass, which is designed to further liberalise and encourage travel among the Asean community.
“The pass allows us to bridge communities and attract more foreign tourists to the region – it’s the perfect instrument to promote Asean integration,” he added. Tony said he has long dreamed of having the product launched in this region and finally made the announcement of the product’s development at the Asean Business Advisory Council Malaysia Conference held in Kuala Lumpur last year. The product’s launch also coincides with the establishment of the ambitious Asean Economic Community (AEC 2015) that the regional bloc is pushing for. The AEC 2015 is expected to be operational by year-end.
“We are constantly enhancing the way guests fly with us and the AirAsia Asean Pass is another innovation that we have put in place to make flying more efficient and enjoyable,” Tony said, adding that additional enhancements are also underway to further benefit guests traveling from non Asean destinations. Calling Asean as one of the ‘shining lights’ for growth in the aviation industry today, Tony told reporters that he is very optimistic about the product’s success and said it will remain as a permanent product for AirAsia.
“AirAsia has revolutionised mobility and travelling for Asean people.. we have driven the Asean tourism agenda.. as the pace of reform in Asean moves quickly, now is the right time to do it,” he said.
