TOKYO (dpa) – Japan’s Daikin Industries Ltd, the world’s top seller of air conditioners, said Wednesday it would spend 410 million dollars on building a new plant in the United States.
Since its acquisition of US subsidiary Goodman Inc in 2012, Daikin has increased its operations in North America. “However, greater production capacity has become essential for achieving further growth,” the company said.
The new plant of around 350,000 square metres, combining Goodman’s four production and two logistic plants in Texas and Tennessee, will be built near the headquarters of the subsidiary in Houston, Texas, Daikin said. The company expects its operations to start in mid-2016.
