KUCHING (Bernama) – Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem said the government’s move to increase 11,757 police personnel as announced in the 2015 Budget will help to reduce the crime rate and safeguard public safety.
He said even though the crime rate in Sarawak was still until control, property crimes were worrying to the people.
“I am happy Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) gave manyallocations to the police, with an additional number of personnel, which means crime control through patrols and other crime prevention measures will be intensified,” he said when officiating the 1KDN Carnival yesterday.
Also present were Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Khalid Shariff and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
Meanwhile Adenan hoped the public perception that the job of the police was only to catch people would be corrected.
