THE curtains came down on the 2nd Brunei Darussalam National Games (SKBD) yesterday at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, seeing Minister of Communications Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar as the guest of honour.
The event began with the semi-final and final rounds of the indoor tug-of-war, pitting contingents from Belait, Tutong, Brunei-Muara and MS ABDB against each other. The final round saw the Brunei-Muara contingent battling it out with the Belait contingent.
The guest of honour awarded the gold medal to the Brunei-Muara contingent, the silver medal to the Belait contingent, and bronze medals to Tutong and MS ABDB.
Following this, medals were presented to the ‘Best Male Athlete’ and ‘Best Female Athlete’ of the 2nd Brunei Darussalam National Games 2014.
Mohd Fida’iy bin Hj Sanif from the Telecommunications and ICT Sector was crowned Best Male Athlete after winning three gold medals in the Individual Kata, Individual Kumite and Team Kumite of the Karatedo event.
Meanwhile, Fatin Nur Ashikin binti Abu Bakar, who was named Best Female Athlete, told the Bulletin, “Alhamdulillah, I didn’t expect to get this award and was really surprised when the manager informed me about it today. I just played my very best and tried to win for the Brunei-Muara contingent.
“I would like to thank the coaches, manager, the Brunei-Muara Bowling team and the Brunei-Muara contingent for their endless support,” she added.
The event then continued with the announcement of medal rankings and the overall champion.
Brunei-Muara ranked in first place, receiving the Champions Trophy, Challenge Trophy and a $5,000 cheque, while second place winner MS ABDB received a trophy and a $3,000 cheque, and third place winner Tutong taking the trophy and a $2,000 cheque.
