MOTORISTS can soon use their mobile phones to check on their demerit points and receive a reminder a month before the expiration of their driving licence and car registration following the launch of the ‘Sistem Keselamatan Amalan Pemandu’ (SiKAP) mobile app and JPD Push SMS Service yesterday.
The service was officially launched by Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Communications as the guest of honour at the ministry’s Amar Pahlawan Hall.
Dr Haji Supry bin Haji Awang Ladi, the Director of Land Transport Department, explained the features of the applications that will soon be made available.
He said, “We are still working on the app for both the driving licence and vehicle licence registration. In the meantime, Land Transport Department is expanding the availability of online counters at other Land Transport branches in Kuala Belait and Tutong, driving circuit at Sungai Akar and Temburong.
“This is part of our efforts to urge the public to renew online and to reduce queues at the conventional counters. PCs and systems are being installed at our KB branch, followed by the other branches in few weeks’ time.”
He added, “We are working very closely with e-Government National Centre (eGNC) and other agencies. The new approach will increase productivity with less counter transactions and more online users.”
Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah advised the public to make use of the online platform to renew their driving licences and vehicle registration.
He said, “My hope is to see that the service counters at the Land Transport (branches) are reduced and replaced with the online approach in conducting business.”
The new app, which is created by Ishajaya, can be downloaded through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. If there are any inconsistencies in the information, the users can report the matter to the Land Transport Department.
The JPD Push SMS, which is created by Oakchem Sdn Bhd, provides a reminder to motorists to renew their licence or car registration a month before the expiration date.
