TAWAU (Bernama) – The Sabah Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has identified 510 premises thoroughout the state which must have the Fire Safety Certificate issued by the department.
Sabah JBPM Director Nordin Fauzi said of this number, 333 premises had obtained the certificate while 177 more had yet to obtain it.
“The premises which do not have the certificate must get it immediately as the department will not compromise on safety systems. So far, eight cases have been taken to court for not having a valid certificate,” he said in his speech at the launch of the Business Licensing Electronic Support System (BLESS), Tawau and Sandakan.
The speech was read out by the head of the Sabah JBPM Fire Safety Division, Anuar Abu Bakar.
Nordin said Sabah JBPM would work to ensure all premises which were operating had complete fire rescue systems to ensure the safety of people and property in the premises.
He added that BLESS was aimed at assisting customers obtain efficient, simple and friendly service compared to the previous manual system.
