KUALA LUMPUR (NST) – More than 50 vehicles were damaged when their drivers could not escape the fast rising water in a flash flood that hit the city on Wednesday.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall said the vehicles were partially submerged following a two-hour downpour during rush hour.
Its spokesman said the roads affected included the oft-congested Jalan Sultan near the intersection of Hard Rock Café and Renaissance Hotel.
“This caused a massive traffic crawl in the city. The water level started rising at 4.30pm. It subsided by 6pm.”
He said traffic police had to block access to Jalan Chan Sow Lin at 5pm to prevent motorists from getting trapped in the flood.
Other affected areas were Jalan Kia Peng, Jalan Ampang and Desa Pandan. In Jalan Ipoh, a fallen tree caused a massive traffic congestion.
