FORTY-FIVE higher education scholars departed for Japan yesterday to participate in the JENESYS 2.0 Mass Media – 12th Batch Programme, which will be ongoing until September 30.
The entourage comprises students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB), Politeknik Brunei, Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College, Jefri Bolkiah Engineering College, Nakhoda Ragam Vocational School, Sultan Bolkiah Vocational School, Wasan Vocational School and the Business School.
JENESYS 2.0 Mass-Media – 12th Batch is a project under the Sub-committee on Information on Association of Southeast Asian Nations Committee on Culture and Information (Asean-COCI) with Japan.
The students will be chaperoned by two lecturers – Dayang Siti Mazidah Haji Mohamad from UBD and Ak Muhammad Rahimi bin Pg Haji Zahari from ITB.
The Information Department under the Prime Minister’s Office in its capacity as Brunei’s Sub-committee on Asean-COCI, has collaborated with the Ministry of Education for this particular programme which focusses on participants between the ages of 18 to 30, who are still in the college or university levels.
Upon arrival in Tokyo, the delegation will be separated into two groups, and each group will be integrated into programmes and activities arranged by the Japan International Cooperation Centre (JICE) – the organisation responsible for the JENESYS 2.0 Mass Media – 12th Batch Programme.
The first group of students will be in Kyoto, while the other in Tokushima. As part of the programme, both groups will be given an introductory crash course in Japanese technology and products, aside from familiarising them with the strengths and attractions of Japanese local culture.
During the 10-day trip, students will also be taken to the school exchange and host family programmes.
Present to send off the delegation at the Brunei International Airport yesterday were Dyg Hjh Noorashidah binti Hj Aliomar, the Acting Director of the Information Department as well as officers from both the MoE and the Information Department.
