THE Ministry of Home Affairs held a 44-time Khatam Al-Quran at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital yesterday to mark the 44th anniversary of the changing of the name of Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan.
Organised by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Board under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the 44-time Khatam Al-Quran saw the attendance of the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, as the guest of honour.
More than 406 participants from the government ministries, departments and schools as well as mukim and village consultative councils in the Bandar Seri Begawan area were involved in the event.
A statement from the BSB Municipal Board read, “This initiative is a manifestation of the love for the Al-Quran Al-Karim and even more significant is that it is taking place in the middle of the capital, which is typically busy with worldly affairs.
“This initiative is also to further develop continuous efforts to provide Islamic character to Bandar Seri Begawan with an image that is good and beautiful, moreover as a Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) country or Negara Zikir.”
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the minister, before continuing with the Khatam Al-Quran and Takhtim led by Mudim Haji Amran bin Haji Mohd Salleh.
The Khatam doa was then read by Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Emran bin Haji Kunchang.
Also present yesterday were permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, department heads, BSB Municipal Board members, penghulus, village heads, mukim and village consultative council members as well as officers and staff from the Ministry of Home Affairs and BSB Municipal Board.
