THE trainees for the 3rd PKBN or the National Service Programme 2014 recently undertook community work at two different locations in the Belait District.
The trainees were divided into two platoons to conduct the community work, which is part of their training programme.
One of the venues for the community work was a house at No 3, Spg 43, Kg Sg Kayu Ara of Lumut, which belongs to Awg Junaidi bin Yusop, 73, a senior citizen and pension recipient. He is currently partially paralysed due to a stroke.
Awang Junaidi lives with his wife, two children and seven grandchildren in the 30-year-old house damaged by termite infestation.
According to Sergeant Mohd Shahrulnizam bin Haji Masut, the ‘Penyelia Kawad’ of the 3rd intake of PKBN who brought the platoon 2 to Awang Junaidi’s house, “The platoon comprised 39 PKBN trainees, accompanied by 12 officers on duty. Their works involved changing the flooring, repainting the walls, cleaning and tidying up the indoor and outdoor of the house.”
The PKBN trainees also went through a session of D’Sembang.
The Community Development Officer, Noridah binti Hj Ishak, who is in charge of the Community Development Department of the Belait District branch, described the D’Sembang as “a session where we can acquire information from the trainees about the community work”.
She added, “D’Sembang also acts as an enabler for the trainees to improve their communication skills as boosting communication capabilities is also an important part of the programme.”
The same event was also carried out concurrently at the Pusat Bahagia Eric Goh in Kuala Belait by another platoon.
