THE Islamic Studies Department of the Ministry of Religious Affairs yesterday sent off 39 students to pursue their Bachelor’s Degree at Al-Azhar University and Mahad Qiraat Al Azhar Shoubra under the government’s Ministry of Religious Affairs scholarship.
The students, comprising 14 males and 25 females, will undergo their studies in fields such as Islamic Syariah, Usuluddin and Lughah for four years, as well as Syariah Wal Qanun for five years and Takhassus Al Quran Wal Qiraat for three years.Most of the students are Higher Certificate of Brunei Religious Education (STPUB) graduates from the Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boys Secondary School, while three of them are diploma graduates from Tahfiz Al Quran Wal Qiraat Darul Quran JAKIM Malaysia.
Among the main reasons the government chose Al-Azhar University was to produce Islamic scholars, Hafiz Al-Quran and Islamic speakers to maintain the faith in Brunei Darussalam, as well as to contribute to the country’s vision of being a Zikir Nation.
Present to send off the students was the Acting Director of the Islamic Studies Department, Ustazah Hajah Rusita binti Hj Yahya. A Doa Selamat prior to the students departure was led by Ustaz Ali Mustafa.
