A TOTAL of 30 students participated in the finals for the 51st National Al-Quran Reading Competition 2014 under the ‘Alif’, ‘Ba’ and ‘Jim’ categories for religious schools.
The event was held at Pengiran Anak Puteri Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam Religious School in Mulaut.
Abdul Hannan bin Amir from Pengiran Anak Puteri Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah Religious School in Kilanas emerged as Qari champion in the ‘Alif’ category, while Nur Tajwida Insyirah binti Haji Isa from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Religious School of Lambak Kanan emerged as Qariah champion.
Category ‘Ba’ was won by Qari Zainal Mustapa bin Jaluddin from Pengiran Anak Puteri Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah Religious School, while Effa Surya Humyrah binti Haji Ali Bolkiah from Raja Isteri Fatimah Religious School emerged as Qariah champion.
Muhammad Faris Azizi bin Muhammad Jefery from Pengiran Muda Abdul Malik Religious School in Bengkurong emerged as Qari champion for category ‘Jim’, while Waliyah binti Haji Kamarul Azam from Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Religious School was Qariah champion.
The prizes were presented by guest of honour, Ustazah Hajah Rusita binti Haji Yahya, Acting Director of Islamic Studies, Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Among the objectives of the competition were to educate and nurture Al-Quran reading talent among contestants, as well as instil interest in the field of Al-Quran reading in order to produce Qari and Qariah for national and international level competitions.
In addition, it also forms part of religious schools’ effort to ensure that students are able to read the Al-Quran, as well as to make the Al-Quran reading a part of everyday life.
