ELECTRICAL and Electronic Engineering academics from the Faculty of Engineering in Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) yesterday completed a three-day workshop on outcome based learning, programme development and accreditation.
According to a press release, the workshop was organised by the Faculty to prepare the academic staff for the accreditation process. The workshop was facilitated by Professor Ir Dr Abdul Halim bin Mohamad Yatim from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
Professional accreditation of academic programmes provides assurance that the programmes meet the international quality standards established by the profession for which a higher education institution prepares its students. It also assists students in choosing quality programmes and enables employers and graduate schools to recruit graduates that they know are well-equipped. Accreditation requirements also provide a structured mechanism to assess, evaluate, and improve the quality of the programmes.
During the workshop, participants completed exercises related to the various stages of programme development for accreditation.
Participants also discussed the international standards that can be incorporated into the current programmes.
The workshop concluded yesterday afternoon with certificate presentations by the Acting Vice Chancellor of ITB, Associate Professor Dr Hjh Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman.
