TWENTY-THREE babies were born on the first day of Muharram 1436 Hijrah yesterday, 18 of which were born in the Brunei-Muara District – 11 boys and seven girls – two in the Tutong District and three in the Belait District. No birth was recorded in the Temburong District.
The first baby born, who is a girl and the first child of Nordiyana binti Daud and Musa Haji Mohammad, was delivered at 6.34pm at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital and weighed 3.37 kilogrammes.
Parents of the 18 babies born in the Brunei-Muara District yesterday gathered at the lobby area of RIPAS Hospital to meet with the sponsors who had contributed to the children’s future, along with a number of senior government officers who were present to celebrate the joyous occasion.
The guests of honour were the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman and spouse, Datin Hajah Alimah binti Mohd Taib; and the Minister of Health, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof and spouse, Datin Paduka Dayang Hajah Salmah binti Haji Hanafiah.
Also present were the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof in his capacity as the Chairman of Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Burnei (TAIB); Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad bin Haji Daud, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Syarikat Takaful Brunei Darussalam Sdn Bhd and its subsidiaries; Dayang Rokiah Haji Badar, the Acting Managing Director of TAIB; and their spouses as well as Haji Shahrildin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Utama Dato Paduka Haji Jaya, Takaful Brunei Acting Managing Director.
Each of the babies received a $100 voucher and a hamper with baby essentials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Meanwhile, Takaful Brunei also presented special gifts to the 23 families of the newborns, each with a baby carrier and a TBK Takaful Nur Savings gift voucher worth $250. The presentations were held at respective hospitals in the Tutong and Belait districts, with Takaful Brunei Keluarga Deputy General Manager, Dayang Hajah Mahana binti Haji Ajak and Takaful Brunei Am Assistant General Manager, Haji Awang Rafie bin Haji Damit at the respective districts. TAIB contributed a SiManja Savings Account worth $200 and a hamper worth $50.
