KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) – A total of 210,671 single mothers nationwide have received various forms of assistance from the government since 2008.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said the help rendered included counselling, legal service, financial aid and assistance in seeking employment and for their children’s schooling.
She said the ministry had also introduced several programmes such as the Single Mothers’ Skills Incubator scheme, MamaCare and launching grants for single mothers to start a business.
Rohani was replying to a question from Senator Datuk Roslin Abdul Rahman on the programmes and aid for single mothers in order to safeguard their children’s future.
“For 2015, among the programmes planned is collaboration with GiatMara to enable the target group to be given further training and interest-free capital of RM10,000 to do business,” she said.
Rohani said the ministry would also be collaborating with Technology Park Malaysia in Bukit Jalil to help develop and take the business ventures of single mothers to a higher level.
