OVER 2,000 employment opportunities are on offer at the Oil and Gas Sector Job Fair 2014, which officially opened yesterday at the BRIDEX International Convention Centre.
The job fair was launched by the Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar.
More than 100 organisations are participating in the fair with 2,013 job vacancies available to jobseekers. A wide range of technical and commercial job openings are on offer, including vacancies in the service sectors such as logistics, marine, engineering and construction, well engineering and services, information technology and general services.
In addition, the job fair also has sessions on CV writing, interview tips, walk-in interviews as well as demonstration and role play of some of the jobs available.
First held in 2011, the job fair is now in its 5th showing and continues to be a platform through which companies can meet prospective employees.
The minister said of the fair, “We have managed to identify many areas for improvements and strive to surpass previous achievements through even tougher targets, especially in providing employment to locals.”
The job fair is divided into two halls – with exhibition hall 1 housing the Brunei Maritime Academy booth as well as companies specialising in logistics and marine, well services and drilling, information technology and general services. The CV-writing and interview clinics can also be found here.
Exhibition hall 2 is where the booths of the main oil & gas operators are found, namely PetroleumBRUNEI, Brunei Shell Petroleum, Brunei LNG, Brunei Shell Marketing, Brunei Gas Carriers, Brunei Shell Tankers, Brunei Methanol Company, TOTAL E&P Borneo BV, Shell Deepwater Borneo, Petronas Carigali Brunei Ltd and Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd.
Also found in exhibition hall 2 are engineering, construction and maintenance companies’ booths, along with those of media and telecommunication companies and financial institutions.
One of the prominent exhibitions in this hall is that of the Energy Industry Competency Framework (EICF), which showcases its various programmes that provide training to locals to make them employable in the energy sector. The EICF is showcased via an exhibit displaying the various technical and vocational disciplines and courses available as well as a skills demonstration area.
Exhibition hall 2 is also where the booths of the Energy Department at the Prime Minister’s Office, Department of Economic Planning and Development, e-Government National Centre and Institute of Brunei Technical Education are located.
In addition, both halls have registration areas for jobseekers and prospective EICF applicants.
The job fair is now on at Bridex from 9am-6pm daily until Sunday, November 30. However, on Friday, the event will be opened from 9am-11.30am and 2pm-6pm.
