OVER 80 members of the public participated in a cleaning campaign held at Kampong Bolkiah A in Kampong Ayer.
The campaign was the first river cleanup hosted by the 1stopBrunei Wildife Club for the year 2015.
The volunteers were welcomed by the Village Head of Kampong Bolkiah ‘A’, Shahminan bin Haji Matzin, as well as other members of the Kampong Bolkiah ‘A’ Village Consultative Council.
To show his support, Shahminan also participated in the cleanup and provided refreshments for the volunteers.
According to the head of the campaign and founder of 1stopbrunei Wildlife Club, Muhd Shavez Cheema, the campaign was aimed at instilling a culture of teamwork and love for nature, apart from cleaning up the river.
A clean river is essential to the wildlife residing around the water village such as dolphins, otters and proboscis monkeys, he added.
The club hopes to conduct this activity every month with support from the Brunei-Muara District Office and heads of villages.
For this cleaning campaign, the Brunei-Muara District Office extended their support by providing two trucks for garbage collection.
