NUR Aqilah binti Hj Md Salleh has been selected as the first student to be awarded the Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine scholarship by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA).
The 19-year-old, who left for the United Kingdom yesterday evening, is attending a five-year Bachelor’s Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) at Bristol University starting this month, according to MoRA in a press release.
Nur Aqilah, who was a student at Institut Tahfiz Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, previously took her ‘A’ Levels in Grehsam College in the UK through a special ‘A’ Level scholarship by MoRA.
In an interview, she praised Allah the Almighty and expressed gratitude to the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through the Islamic Studies Department (JPI), MoRA, for the opportunity to pursue her dreams in education.
“I look forward to excel in this field and return home to contribute to the community and the country,” she added.
The former Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran student also said she desires to maintain Al-Quran reading and memorising throughout her studies.
Present at the Brunei International Airport to bid her farewell were Islamic Studies Department Acting Director Ustazah Hjh Rusita binti Hj Yahya and Nur’s family members.
