THE 8th Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD) National Games concluded yesterday afternoon at the Track & Field of Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College in Gadong.
The athletes were students from schools, government centres as well as non-government organisations, mainly from Brunei-Muara, Tutong and Belait districts.
Around 148 students and 43 teachers participated representing 15 schools and organisations.
The participants were from SOBD, Pusat Bahagia, Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, Berakas Secondary School, Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School, SOAS Secondary School, Menglait Secondary School, Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School, Lambak Kiri Secondary School, Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School, Tanjung Maya Secondary School, Perdana Wazir Secondary School, PAPHRSB Secondary School, Pg Jaya Negara Pg Hj Abu Bakar Secondary School and Anthony Abell College.
The athletics events were divided into two categories; Low Ability and High Ability.
Four events were competed for Low Ability category – 50m Run, 100m Walk, Standing Long Jump and Soft Ball Throw.
Six events were competed for the High Ability category – 100m Run, 200m Run, 400m Run, 4x100m Run, Long Jump and Shotput.
The Games was held to select new athletes to SOBD in future international sporting events.
Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Pg Rambli bin Pg Hj Bunut, Vice-President of SOBD, presented the prizes.
