SOME 115 underprivileged members of society residing in Kg Mulaut, who were identified by the Islamic Religious Council, yesterday received sacrificial meat during a Korban ceremony organised by the Department of Schools at the Ministry of Education (MoE) in conjunction with Aidiladha.
Six cattle were slaughtered for the ceremony at the Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre (PTE Sengkurong).
The guest of honour was the Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar bin Hj Apong. Also present from the ministry were the Deputy Minister, Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Yusoff bin Hj Ismail; Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Dr Hj Junaidi bin Hj Abdul Rahman; Deputy Permanent Secretary, Dr Hjh Romaizah bte Hj Mohd Salleh; Deputy Permanent Secretary, Dr Hjh Anita Binurul Zahrina bte Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Hj Awg Abdul Aziz as well as the Acting Director-General of Education.
A religious talk was presented by an invited speaker from the Islamic Dakwah Centre, Hj Mail bin Besar, who touched on the importance of the ceremony.
Students from PTE Sengkurong helped enliven the ceremony further with a religious performance.
The ministry holds the ceremony annually to seek blessings and to encourage individuals to make charitable contributions to society.
