A CLOSING ceremony was held for the 10th Spiritual Motivation Camp yesterday, which took place at Lumut Beach, Belait District. The camp, which was held for three days and two nights, was organised by the Department of Youth and Sports of Belait District under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
Present as the guest of honour at the closing ceremony was Muhammad Aziman bin Haji Awang Nasir, the Acting Deputy Director of Youth and Sports, Department of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Youth Culture and Sports.
In his welcoming speech, Muhd Nordin Hj Muhamad, the Co-chairperson for the Spiritual Motivational Camp, said that around 40 youth participated in the camp, all of whom actively showed interest and energy.
“Through the prepared activities, we saw that the youngsters were eager to work together as a team and we hope that they will bring what they have learnt through this programme and apply them to their daily lives.”
Asma Hidayati binti Omar, 20, gave a speech on behalf of the participating youth during the ceremony, in which she said, “The camp has given us inspiration and instilled in us qualities such as team spirit and mutual understanding, which became pillars towards our continuous integration.”
“Throughout the event, we have experienced various special moments in the activities which we haven’t felt before, making them unforgettable. Because of this, we aspire to be individuals who keep on moving forward towards perfection.” She added that even though the activities were very challenging, with an unfaltering spirit and drive, they continued to strive with the help of their teammates.
Syyhabuddin bin Radie, 15, in an interview with the Bulletin, said, “My favourite activity in this camp was the Solo Night, where we were left alone individually for an hour.
“At first, I was scared, but we were given three things to think about. Firstly we were asked to think about the reason why we chose to join this camp. Secondly, we were asked to choose between friends and family and give a reason for the choice, and thirdly, we were told to ponder about what we know of friendship values.”
He said that he joined the camp because he wants to be better at teamwork and hone his interpersonal skills. He also said that he chose family because he felt that family is always number one. Mutual respect and understanding forms part of the definition of friendship values, he added.
