THE 10th annual Brunei Darussalam Roundtable was held yesterday at The Empire Hotel & Country Club in Jerudong.
The roundtable was jointly organised by Asia Asset Management Hong Kong and the Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM), supported by Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD).
The guest of honour was the Minister of Development and Deputy Chairman of AMBD, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman.
Also present were the Deputy Ministers at the Prime Minister’s Office, Dato Paduka Hj Ali bin Hj Apong and Dato Paduka Hj Abd Wahab bin Juned, members of the AMBD Board of Directors, permanent secretaries, government officials and executive officers from financial institutions.
Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Suyoi in his speech highlighted the need to further develop Brunei Darussalam’s capital markets and insurance industries in line with the Vision Brunei 2035’s goal, to increase the financial sector’s contribution to eight per cent of Gross Domestic Product.
The minister also touched on the potential of Islamic finance in Brunei Darussalam and to develop human capacity through the cooperation and commitment of relevant stakeholders.
The theme for this years roundtable is “A Decade of Progress and Growth: The Roadmap Ahead”.
The seminar provided an opportunity for financial regulators and industry players to exchange ideas and knowledge on current investment trends, capital markets development in the Asean region and building human capacity for the financial services industry.
The roundtable was attended by more than 150 local and foreign participants including government officials, financial regulators and industry players.
