IPOH (Bernama) – About 100 traders of farmer’s markets, night markets and Ramadhan bazaars have protested a request by a medical centre in Taman Kledang, Jelapang to the local authorities to relocate them to a new place.
Kinta Mobile Night Market Malay Petty Traders Association president, Jaafar Uthman said the medical centre claimed the traders were hindering traffic flow in the area.
He said the association regretted the action of the medical centre which had submitted its request to the Ipoh City Council (MBI) and Manjoi assemblyman Mohamad Ziad Mohamed Zainal Abidin.
“We have placed Rela (People’s Volunteer Corp) officers to control traffic in front of the medical centre and also not allow any trading in the area,” he told reporters yesterday.
The protesting traders carried banners and placed bricks in front of the medical centre which was closed yesterday, as a sign of protest against the request.
Jaafar also expressed surprise by the medical centre’s request as traffic could flow smoothly in front of it and the ambulance could easily move to and from it.
